In 1994, the Study of the Special Projects of National Significance (SPNS) Program identified adolescent care as a priority & awarded grants to 10 org's. with distinctive adolescent HIV care projects. This report, which covers FY'95 & Ô96, begins with a brief review of the growing problem of HIV/AIDS among adolescents followed by a description of the R&D approach that underpins the SPNS Program effort. Examines the challenges faced by the 10 grantees & the lessons they learned while seeking to deliver medical & social support services to HIV-positive & at-risk young people. Describes the technical assistance strategies used by SPNS Program staff to help the grantees carry out their projects.
